CHALK ZONE

For this project, I was heavily inspired by the cartoon “ChalkZone”. The cartoon tells a story about a boy who found a magical chalk which can open a portal to ChalkZone and he can draw anything in the zone which will later came to life. With that, my attempt on the theme “The Doorway”, involve a way between a person who opened the doorway between two worlds.

Compositing Process

I separated the first and second part of the comp as I think it would be easier to handle. It starts with the main video with the hand which was drawing the portal roto’d above the RotoPaint to create a correct illusion of drawing a portal. Next, it is followed by the painted background inside the portal with the IDistort node to create a look of a portal. Lastly on the first part, it is finished with the Roto’d subject to be put on top of the portal with an ending of IDistort to match the previous on portal as an illusion of entering the portal. I also added glow to give a transition between the first and second part.

The second part of the video is quite simple as it is just the 3D Parallax background behind the Keyed Subject on a green screen. This to create the look of the subject is on the painted 2D world.
